Tina Chang Hanqing Chang started playing the piano at the age four. At the age of twelve, she started her formal music education at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music where she studied under Professor Li Xiumei. In 2006, she received a full scholarship to attend the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore, where she then went on to pursue her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance with Professor Thomas Hecht. In 2010, she received another full scholarship to pursue her Master of Music degree at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where she studies with Professor Yong Hi Moon. In 2012, with her outstanding academic performance, she got an Enlight foundation Scholarship Award for Artist and Scientist to pursue her Doctor of Music Arts degree at the College-Conservatory of Music. At the same time Hanqing also pursued her Artist Diploma under Professor Awadagin Pratt at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. Hanqing Chang has appeared in concert venues throughout Germany, Korea, Singapore, United States, England and China. At the age of 10, she started performing publicly. At the age of 20, she was invited to perform the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1 with the GuiYang Symphony Orchestra at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Critics praised Ms. Chang’s performance, the New Post Styles Weekly wrote, “Passionate melodies filled the concert hall whilst the whole audience was transfixed instantly. Leaping of octaves and sustaining harmony portrayed a ballet on stage until the last notes slipped through her fingertips. Ms. Chang conquered the audience with her extraordinary performance.” Hanqing has won several piano competitions, including the First Prize of the 3rd Wiesbaden International Piano Competition in Germany; First Prize of the College-Conservatory of Music Piano Concerto Competition; Audience Favorite Award of the 57th World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Second Prize in the Asian Youth Music International Competition in Sichuan, China; First Prize of the 10th “XinHai” National Piano Comeptition in Sichuan, China; First Prize of the 3rd HGS National Piano Competition in Guiyang, China and the 12th Hong Kong Piano Open Competition in Hong Kong. She has receiving master classes from renowned musicians such as Sergei Babayan, Russell Sherman, Tamás Vásary, Menahem Pressler, Wha Kyung Byun, Dang Thai Son, Nelita True, Ann Schein, Stephen Prutsman, Frederic Chiu, Jura Margulis, Vladimir Viardo, Ursula Oppens, etc. Hanqing is also passionate about teaching. She has enjoyed ten years of teaching experience working with piano students in a variety of settings both in the United States as well as in China and Singapore. She has presented public masterclass in ShenYang, GuiYang, ChengDu and ShenZhen.
